Celebrate

Celebration is the human activity that takes life to its fullest. It has no practical reason, yet people are celebrating since the dawn of man kind. It serves nothing but its own being, and reminds us that we are welcomed on this earth with no conditions. Everyone can celebrate, everyone has the right to live, to love, to be happy.

Throughout the ages certain celebrations are held at special occasions related to nature, culture and the cycle of life and death. People celebrate new-born life, events that once happened, the days of harvest, the seasons and the cycle of the year.

New year is actually the most celebrated day in the world, only each culture celebrate it on a different day, according to its history and tradition. The Chinese celebrate the new year on the second full moon after the longest night of the year, the Jews celebrate around the autumnal equinox, the Christians celebrate shortly after the longest night of the year, on January 1st.

As this New Year celebration is happening soon I want us all to remember how basic is our right to celebrate. How uplifting is the simple tune or dance. How uniting are the friends that dance around us. I hope this New Year celebration will give you good vibes that last for the entire year.

Do you feel?

The most basic human action is feeling. We feel physical attributes like heat and touch, emotional feelings like joy, anger, sadness and fear, and even mental states like feeling sharp or confused. As feeling connects us all as humans I decided to bring you some details about web searches regarding feelings, to see how we feel as humanity.

According to Google Trends the search volume for the phrase “I feel” doubled over the last 5 years.

The word “Happy” is MUCH more searched than “Angry”, “Sad” or “Afraid”. I guess we all want to be happy, and actively searching for it, at least on the web.

The most searched “I feel” phrases are:

• I feel myself
• I feel like dying
• I feel good
• I feel fine
• I feel pretty
• I feel love

Again, we can learn something about the state of mind of the average web user, where sex and death are at the top of the list, and love takes a pretty low place.

Emoticons

“An emoticon is a symbol or combination of symbols used to convey emotional content in written or message form.” (Wikipedia)

Those symbols convey a double message. On one hand they are very simple, textual, technical. On the other hand the emotions they express are those of real humans, with all their depth and richness. Beyond the simple message sent and received using those symbols there is always a rich sub-text, with many colors and shades that human emotions can have.

So, Next time you see those symbols and talking to others through your computer take a moment to look inside and feel your emotions. you can feel like that only because you are human. Don’t forget that while using those simple, cool symbols.
